To coincide with the 58th Venice Biennale, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice presents works by Johannes Brus and Ottmar Hörl from 12 May to 28 July 2019. Dierk Maass, the photographer, is a guest contributor to the exhibition. Ottmar Hörl is showing prints, sculptures, and original works.
The guiding idea behind this exhibition was inspired by Claude Levi-Strauss, the ethnologist who coined the concept of the "savage mind". Levi-Strauss used this term to describe the thought patterns of cultures that live close to nature and are based on traditional, holistic and mythical world views. This way of thinking is an imaginative combination of "fragments" derived from sensual perception and past events, which are transformed into concrete images and stories thanks to the power of imagination. The recently released prints for the portfolio editions, exclusively published by the "Edition Minerva" art book publishing house, are presented in the exhibition – featuring two editions by Ottmar Hörl, "Il Mare" and "Rotation" (sheet size: 50x68 cm/68x50 cm).
