Dogs are (not) to be kept on a leash: between 20 and 25 June 2019, Leonberg's market square is populated by life-size dog sculptures illustrating the town's mascot in a new manner.
Between 20 and 25 June 2019, Leonberg's market square is populated with carnivores of a special kind: a multitude of dark dog sculptures, reminiscent of lions, has assembled in the town centre, making the old hunter-gatherer in us stop short. However, these sculptures gathered there in silence pose no danger. In fact, this is an exhibition put on view outside the spaces typically used for showcasing art: Ottmar Hörl has erected a monument to the secret mascot of the town of Leonberg. Yet, "erected" is the wrong term as art wishes to find its way into life, leaving those iconic public spaces, as it were, and keen to enter the contemplative private sphere of every one of us. This is why you may adopt one of these local lions, and purchase a sculpture at the subscription price of 350 euros (unsigned) or 750 euros (signed, 50 copies/colour) when the exhibition has finished.
