Since 1998, The Blue House has flanked the road leading into Ravensburg's Weststadt.
"The Blue House was the result of a competition. The basic idea came from the numerous, quite individual barns that are a characteristic feature of the surrounding hills. I wanted to develop a similar building; in this case, however, "sliding" off its hill. The building was supposed to sit on an elevation made especially for this purpose. My aim was to design a place to pause, a kind of vantage point. This, however, is a building that has no windows or doors since it was created on the basis of a blue pictogram used to symbolise a house. The Blue House in Ravensburg does have one other very special feature: a letterbox to which people can post a message. The postman knows the address and also pops letters addressed to The Blue House into the repository there. The letters will, of course, never be read ..." (Ottmar Hörl)
