Richard Wagner is considered one of the most important and influential composers of the Romantic era. He founded the Festival in the Festival Hall of Bayreuth he had planned, which was dedicated exclusively to the performance of his own work. Even today you can find the traces of the world famous composer in the cultural city of Bayreuth. Under the direction of Katharina Wagner, the Festival takes place from July 25, 2023 to August 28, 2023.
The Bayreuth Festival is a place of immense cultural heritage and musical devotion. On the occasion of the Richard-Wagner-Festival 2023, the German conceptual artist Prof. Ottmar Hörl has developed another sculptural project for Bayreuth. About 115 golden Richard Wagner figures on the Festival Hill welcome visitors to the Bayreuth premiere. They stretch out their arms to the audience and warmly welcome everyone. The gesture of embracing represents a sign of acceptance and often says more than a thousand words.
The Wagner figure for Bayreuth is meant as an invitation, as a conciliatory gesture of increasingly radical discussions. "Music is in itself a conciliatory gesture", states Prof. Ottmar Hörl. "If it is the right one, it can heal the soul." The conceptual artist has already convinced himself of the effect of the figures at the Festival Hall: "People have a smile on their face."
