With 250 Anna Katharina Emmerick figures in gold and white, the internationally renowned conceptual artist Ottmar Hörl will transform the Coesfeld market place into an extraordinary, communicative meeting place from 24.08. to 12.09.2024.
The city thus remembers the nun and mystic who died 200 years ago. As a self-confident, unconventional, empathetic personality, she suffered exclusion and bullying in the convent. "Christianity stands for values that are important for any functioning, life-enriching, solidary community. Why is this still too rarely realized? On the contrary, social media is increasing hate and psychological suffering worldwide. I was therefore particularly interested in the idea that a figure like Emmerick can also be understood as a sign that draws attention to the fact that something is wrong in our society and that we need to work on the problem", emphasises Hörl.
At the end of the project, from 13.09.2024, the sculptures will be exhibited in the foyer of the Allgemeine Zeitung, where they can then be purchased for 95 euros each.
